The durability of 14k gold means it is the most suitable for your piercing. 18k is suitable for healed piercings but the surface is softer than 14k which means it can become easily scratched. An uneven surface can cause bacteria to become trapped which is why we recommend waiting until the piercing has healed. Gold is excellent body jewellery because it is hypoallergenic. For those with metal sensitives, the purer the gold the better as this means there will be fewer other metals in its composition.
