Picking Out Septum Clickers & Rings

It is important to choose the right size and material for your piercing jewellery as your body may react differently to different materials. Getting the right size of septum clicker is important for the health of your piercing.

Size: Septum Clickers and rings are measured by the diameter and gauge. The first number is the gauge (displayed in mm) and the second is the diameter e.g. 1.2 x 8mm. The gauge describes the thickness of the jewellery while the diameter describes the size of the ring. Make sure to measure the thickest part of your septum clicker for accurate results.
Material: Choosing a high quality material such as titanium will provide you with a hypoallergenic material that is perfect for everyday use. Surgical steel is also a good choice for healed piercings as it is durable.

Inserting/Removing Septum Clickers

Before handling your piercing, always make sure to wash your hands with antibacterial soap.

Changing a septum clicker is a simple process that can be done at home but if you would like help, especially the first time, then it is best to visit a piercer.

It is important to be patient and not attempt to change your piercing jewellery before the wound is fully healed as this can cause complications. However, once it has healed you can start exploring your options. Your piercer will usually use a curved or circular barbell to perform the piercing which can then be changed to a septum clicker once the piercing has healed.

To remove your septum clicker, as the name suggests the jewellery fastens and undoes with a click. Grip the lower part of the septum clicker a gently the bar that is at the top of the piercing out of the groove. This will then open, using the hinge at the other end of the bar and you can easily slide it through your piercing.

When inserting your new nose stud make sure to push the bar gently through the piercing hole and keep going until it is in a suitable position.

Then click the bar into the groove of the piercing. If you are using a circular septum clicker, you may be able to work the jewellery through your piercing until the hinged segment is at the bottom. This will make is easier to see and push the bar into the groove.
