Already have a septum piercing and thinking about changing your jewellery to a septum clicker? Or want to know more about septum piercing jewellery before deciding on your next piercing? We have gathered your FAQs on septum clickers to provide you with everything you need to know about this type of nose piercing jewellery.

What is a septum clicker?

A septum clicker is a circular or horseshoe shaped piece of piercing jewellery. Septum clickers are specifically designed for septum piercings which is a type of nose piercing that is placed in the soft tissue above the septum cartilage. Septum rings are a popular choice for this type of piercing. The clickers septum get their name thanks to the bar and groove style of the fastening which often makes a click sound when being opened or closed.

What is septum jewellery called?

There are several types of septum jewelry. The septum clicker is designed specifically for septum piercings. However, you can also wear a variety of septum rings as well as a circular barbell or curved barbell.

Can you get a septum ring straight away?

When you first get your septum piercing, you may not be able to wear a ring straight away. Piercers often recommend wearing a curved or circular barbell during the healing time of your septum piercing as it is less likely to get knocked or caught. Once your septum piercing is fully healed you can switch to a septum ring or septum clicker.

Can you sleep with a septum clicker in?

You can sleep with a septum clicker in. Sometimes people worry that their septum clicker will fall out while they are asleep but if you choose high quality jewellery then you shouldn’t have a problem. If you are worried about your septum clicker, you can always visit a piercer who may be able to tighten the jewellery or provide some reassurance. As long as the bar feels secure in the groove then there is no reason not to sleep with your septum clicker in.

How do you get a septum clicker out?

Septum hoop clicker will have a small hinged section that can be used to remove your septum clicker. To get your septum clicker out, grip the bottom of the jewellery with one hand while gently pulling to release the bar. The bar should easily come out of the groove and can then be gently removed from the septum piercing.

If you need help with removing or inserting your septum clicker, make sure to visit one of our piercers for assistance.

Can I get my septum pierced with a clicker?

You can get your septum pierced with a clicker but most piercers will advise on starting with a curved or circular barbell to reduce the chance of the piercing jewellery moving or being knocked. Patience really does pay off when it comes to piercings. Waiting for some extra time for your piercing to heal before changing to a clicker septum can help your piercing to stay healthy and will definitely pay off in the long run.

How do you buy septum jewellery?

When buying septum jewelry the key factor is to ensure it matches the size of your piercing or current jewellery. Make sure to check the material, especially if your body prefers hypoallergenic material types. Always buy piercing jewellery from a reputable shop so that you can be confident that it will be high quality and durable.

What size septum ring do you get pierced with?

The most common gauges for septum piercings are septum clicker 14g and septum clicker 16g this is 1.6mm and 1.2mm. The diameter of the ring can vary depending on the look you are going for. If you want to the ring to sit close to your nose then choose a small diameter such as a 6mm septum ring. If you want a larger ring then choose a larger diameter but bear in mind that the jewellery will be heavier so this size is best kept for healed piercings.

When browsing for new septum piercing jewellery, always make sure to choose items that match the size of your piercing. Choosing a septum clicker that is too small or too large can cause discomfort and damage to your piercing.

Once your septum piercing is healed you can stretch your piercing if you wish to do so. We would always recommend consulting a piercer before you start the stretching process.

There are many different septum ring types to choose from. Here’s a look at the types of jewellery you could wear in your septum piercing:
