The Dolphin bites piercing is one of many types of lip piercing, each named to describe a specific location. Want to learn more about this lip piercing? We have gathered your FAQs on Dolphin bites to provide everything you need to know on the procedure and aftercare of Dolphin piercings.

What are Dolphin bites piercing?

The Dolphin bites piercing is a double lip piercing that is placed below the bottom lips. The Dolphin bites are placed in the centre of the lip and are usually pierced with a labret bar. The Dolphin bite piercing name comes from the location of the piercing. It is thought that the name refers to the narrowness of a Dolphin’s mouth.

How much does a Dolphin bite piercing hurt?

Dolphin bites piercing pain is relatively low because it is pierced through soft tissue. Many people rate the pain at a 4 or 5 out of 10 on the pain scale. The Dolphin bites piercing is no more painful than any other type of lip piercing. Remember, it may hurt for longer because you are getting two piercings in one sitting which can make the pain feel more intense. However, a professional piercer will perform both piercings quickly so the pain won’t last for long. You may experience some discomfort and swelling after getting your Dolphin bites piercing.

What can I eat after getting a Dolphin bite piercing?

Since Dolphin bite piercing is placed inside the mouth you will need to be careful when choosing what to eat after getting your piercing. You can eat normally after your piercing has healed but during the healing time, it is best to not eat spicy or sticky foods as these can aggravate the wound and get stuck around the piercing jewellery. Eating soft, cold foods after getting your piercing will help soothe your mouth as it is likely to swell. Eat this kind of food for up to a week after initially getting your Dolphin bites piercing – after this time the swelling should have reduced.

What can I drink after getting a Dolphin bites piercing?

Since the Dolphin bites piercing is placed in the mouth you will need to be careful what you drink after getting your piercing. During the healing time, it is best if you can stick to cool water. You may find it soothing to suck on an ice cube to reduce swelling after getting a Dolphin bites piercing. You cannot drink alcohol or carbonated drinks while your lip piercing is healing as this may cause the wound to re-open. Once your Dolphin Bites piercing has healed you can drink anything you want.

What is the difference between dolphin bites and snake bites piercing?

Dolphin bites look similar to snake bites but the difference between these piercings is the placement. Dolphin bites are placed evenly under the lip, either side of the centre. This is different from Snake bites which are placed further from the centre of the lip. They are usually spaced evenly about halfway between the centre and corner of the lip.

Is Dolphin bites lip piercing bad for your teeth?

Lip piercings, including Dolphin bites, can be bad for your teeth due to their placement. The tooth behind the piercing can come into contact with the piercing jewellery which may wear away the enamel on the surface of the tooth or even chip the tooth. Maintaining good oral hygiene for your gums and teeth can prevent your piercing from ruining your teeth. Regularly check your gums for redness or a receding line and make sure to clean any food debris from your piercing jewellery. Labret bars have flat backs which can help prevent damage to the teeth, especially if you choose a short bar.

Can you kiss with a Dolphin bites piercing?

You can kiss with a Dolphin bites piercing, once the piercing has fully healed. It is important not to kiss while your piercing is healing as kissing can put pressure on the Dolphin bites piercing or cause the jewellery to move which will aggravate the wound and slow down healing. Kissing with a fresh piercing can cause infection because another person’s bacteria is introduced to your lips or mouth.

Dolphin bites piercing are one of many ‘bites’ style lip piercings. Bites refer to two piercings placed close together to create the effect of being bitten. Dolphin bites are still are a fairly uncommon type of lip piercing. They can be customised with a range of jewellery – just remember to buy two labret bars at once so you can make sure your Dolphin bites match. Some people like to pair Dolphin bites with medusa, septum, or nostril piercings for symmetry.
