How do you remove a labret stud?

To remove a labret stud, hold the bar or flat back of the stud to keep it secure and use the other hand to unscrew the ball accessory. Once this has been removed you can gently take the bar of the labret stud out of your piercing. Labret studs removal can be fiddly so it may be easier to ask for help, especially from a professional piercer.

How to unscrew a tight labret stud?

To unscrew a tight labret stud, you can use a pair of special jewellery pliers to gently grip the ball add on and unscrew it from the bar. You may find that the ball feels stuck if this is your first piece of jewellery. The piercer will have made sure your labret stud is on securely during the healing process. You can always return to the store for help from a piercer in removing your labret stud.

How do you put a labret stud in?

To put your labret stud in, guide the bar of the labret stud through your piercing hole. Next, you will need to put a ball on the end of the labret stud to keep it in place. This will screw on to the end of the bar. Make sure it is securely fastened to the labret. When inserting your labret stud take care to gently guide the bar through your piercing, especially if it has only recently healed.

How long should a labret stud be?

The length of your labret stud will depend on which type of piercing you are wearing it in. Can you use labret stud nose piercing?

You can use a labret stud as a nose piercing. It is an excellent choice of jewellery for nostril piercings because the flat back of the labret sits flush against the inside of the nose which many people find more comfortable. Can you put a labret in your lobe?

Picking Out Labret Studs

It is important to choose the right size and material for your piercing jewellery as your body may react differently to different materials. Getting the right size of labret stud is important for the health of your piercing.

Size: Labrets are measured by the length and gauge. The first number is the gauge (displayed in mm) and the second is the length e.g. 1.2 x 8mm. To measure the length of a labret, measure from one end of the bar to the other, without the add on balls.
Material: Choosing a high quality material such as titanium will provide you with a hypoallergenic material that is perfect for everyday use. Surgical steel is also a good choice for healed piercings as it is durable.

Most labrets are internally threaded. An internally threaded labret means the screw is at the end of the add on ball and the hole is at the end of the bar.

Inserting/Removing Labret Studs

Before handling your piercing, always make sure to wash your hands with antibacterial soap.

Changing a labret is a simple process that can be done at home but if you would like help, especially the first time, then it is best to visit a piercer.

It is important to be patient and not attempt to change your piercing jewellery before the wound is fully healed as this can cause complications. However, once it has healed you can start exploring your options.

To remove your labret, simply unscrew the ball on the end of the bar. You will then be able to remove the bar from your piercing and replace it with a new one. Gently move the labret stud through your piercing until you reach the end of the bar. If you find it hard to remove the ball then jewellery pliers can help.

When inserting your new labret stud make sure to push the bar gently through the piercing hole and keep going until it is in a suitable position. Always make sure to screw the ball tightly on the end.
