The Blue Banana gold piercing jewellery collection features carefully curated pieces that are suitable for use in piercings. The best types of gold jewellery are 14k and 18k earrings, studs, and hoops but you can use 9ct too once your piercing has healed. Find out more about the type of gold jewellery that is suitable for fresh or healed piercings and why you might want to choose this material.

Generally, gold piercing studs are nickel-free making them hypoallergenic and good for those with metal sensitivities. Gold also possesses other desirable piercing jewellery qualities such as durability, as long as you wear  9ct,14k or 18k.

Is gold jewellery good for piercings?

The type of gold jewellery you choose will determine if it is good for your piercing. For example, 9ct gold earrings, 14k gold piercing earrings and 18k gold earrings are suitable for piercings but anything over that such as 24k is not suitable for piercings. This is because gold is much softer when it is in a purer form. Any nicks and scratches to the surface trap debris and germs meaning it is not suitable for piercings. However, 9ct, 14k and 18k are mixed with other elements so it is less likely to scratch.

What gold is best for fresh piercing?

For fresh piercings, your piercer is likely to recommend 14k gold earrings. Most piercers will say that no other type of gold jewellery is suitable for fresh piercings as the surface is too soft. While your piercing is healing you will want strong, durable and biocompatible piercing jewellery to keep your new piercing free from any bacteria.

Is 14k or 18k better for piercings?

14k and 18k jewellery can be used for piercings; however, 14k should be used if your piercing is fresh because the surface is more durable. 14k jewellery is better starter jewellery and has the same aesthetic as 18k so you can enjoy 14k gold cartilage earrings as soon as you get your piercing. Make sure to discuss with your piercer the jewellery you would like to wear while your piercing is healing to ensure it is suitable.

Is 18K gold ok for piercing?

18k gold jewellery is suitable for piercings once they have fully healed. This is the purest type of gold that should be used for piercings as it has suitable durability for wearing in piercings. 24k is not suitable for piercings.

Is 9ct gold good for new piercings?

Due to the high volume of metal alloys in 9ct gold ear piercing studs, it is best not to use 9ct gold for new piercings. However, once your piercings have healed, 9ct gold is a good option due to its durability as long as you don't have any metal sensitivities. 9ct gold is a great idea if you want to enjoy the aesthetic of gold at a cheaper price.

Why don’t piercers use gold?

Often piercers will recommend titanium jewellery for your first piercing as it is a durable, surgical-grade material that is biocompatible. Piercers don’t use 9ct and 18k gold jewellery for fresh piercings but they may be able to offer 14k cartilage earrings such as 14k gold daith jewellery. The fluids that your body produces during healing can cause the jewellery to tarnish and you may find that your very sensitive fresh piercing becomes irritated by 18k gold jewellery.

Can I wear gold immediately after piercing?

If you have been pierced with different piercing jewellery it is best not to immediately change to gold piercings until after the healing period as this could irritate your fresh piercing wound. However, if you would like to wear gold body jewellery straight away then we recommend talking to your piercer to see if you can be pierced with gold jewellery.

When should I change my piercing to gold?

Once the piercing healing time is over, you can change your piercing to gold. We recommend starting with 14k and saving 9ct and 18k jewellery until your piercing is more established. Often it looks like your piercing is healed because the outside of the hole looks clean and smooth but sometimes the centre of the hole is still healing.

Can you shower with 18K gold?

You can shower with 18k jewellery but over time you do risk tarnishing your jewellery. This is usually due to the other alloys that are in your gold piercing earrings becoming worn rather than the gold elements. However, wearing away these alloys can make the jewellery weaker and more prone to breakage.

Can I wear 18K gold every day?

You can wear 18K gold every day with minimal maintenance. If you are regularly wearing your gold jewellery, make sure to clean it to remove any debris build-up that naturally occurs in your daily life. The metal alloys that are combined with the gold strengthen your piercings gold but you will need to make sure to care for it so the alloys don’t wear away. Avoid harsh chemicals such as chlorine in swimming pools to ensure your 18k gold jewellery stays fresh and sturdy.

Will 9 carat gold fade?

9 carat gold jewellery is a great option for everyday wear but may tarnish more easily due to the reactive metals present in the alloys. The high concentration of metal alloys mixed with pure gold allows 9ct gold earring hoops to be hard. However, you will need to make sure that you keep it clean and avoid showering while wearing 9ct jewellery as this may wear away the metal alloys causing your jewellery to become brittle or tarnished. Cared for in the right way, 9ct gold piercing jewellery is designed to withstand regular wear.

There are many types of gold body jewellery but some styles are more readily available than others and allow you to showcase your most visible piercings such as facial piercings.

Some of the most popular choices are for ear piercings gold such as:

  • Gold Cartilage Hoop: Whether you opt for a polished gold segment ring or a decorative gold cartilage earrings hoop, the warm colour of the gold works with so many skin tones and piercing constellations. Choose dainty small hoops or make a statement with a twist design.
  • Gold Cartilage Stud: The classic stud jewellery is available in an array of designs so you can carefully curate your collection. With cute gold stud piercing earrings such as moons, hearts, or cherries, you can create a beautiful new arrangement for your ear piercings.
  • Gold Stud Earrings for Piercings: You don’t need to have a variety of cartilage piercings to showcase gold jewellery. A simple pair of studs for your ear lobe piercings will add something special to your jewellery collection that can be curated with your necklace and bracelet or worn alone.

Another popular location for gold piercing jewellery is nose piercings. From nostril piercings to septum, the gold nose ring is a trending look. Make it your own by wearing multiples in your higher and lower nostril piercings or try unusual designs of gold piercing jewellery nose.

Among our collection, you will also find diamond piercing earrings paired with 18K gold for the ultimate jewellery gift.

Whether you are looking for special occasion jewellery, the perfect gift, or simply love the way your piercings look and feel with gold jewellery, our collection is designed to cater to a range of piercing types. With universal threadless tops and segment rings, there are a variety of piercings that this jewellery can be used in.
