Metallica are famously known as one of "the big four”, a small group of thrash metal bands that helped shape and define the genre in the 80’s. Their contemporaries included Anthrax, Megadeth and Slayer. After a string of iconic albums, including "Ride The Lightning” and "Master Of Puppets” Metallica were the cream of the crop and rose to the top of this group and broke into the mainstream, bringing metal to the masses.
