There are so many different types of piercing jewellery that you’ll need to make sure you are choosing the right type of jewellery for your piercing. We’re here to help you with our great range of different jewellery in our piercing shop for the most common piercings and most extreme body modifications.

With different types of piercings come different types of piercing jewelry, and there are a wide range of types available here at Blue Banana. It can be confusing when you first hear all the body jewelry names but the piercing jewellery can easily be categorised to make it simpler.

Our labret studs collection, for example, is ideal for any lip piercings including snake bites, spider bites, and Monroe piercings. Labrets can also be worn in a variety of ear piercings. The flat back of the labret means that they are very comfortable to wear and are ideal for placements such as lips as the flat back will reduce the chance of the piercing rubbing against your gums or teeth. Labrets are usually fastened with a ball that can be screwed onto the end of the bar.

Many piercings use a form of barbell. These pieces of body jewelry come in three main forms. Firstly, straight barbells which, as the name suggests, fit any piercing that is designed to support a straight bar. In contrast, the curved and circular barbells are designed to be worn in piercings that have been performed with a curved needle. All types of barbells feature an add-on to each end of the bar which can be unscrewed to allow you to insert and remove your piercing jewellery.

In addition, we stock body piercing jewelry that is designed for specific types of body piercings. For example, we’ve got a great array of navel bars in our body jewellery selection, which are specifically designed to be worn in belly button piercings.

Piercing jewelry that is fastened with a screw-in element can be externally threaded or internally threaded. This means that if the jewellery is externally threaded the screw is on the bar and the hole is on the ball. If it is internally threaded it is the other way round.

Once your piercing has healed, you can swap your piercing jewellery for a ring or hoop, for some types of piercing. There are many different designs to choose from when it comes to types of piercing rings:

BCRs: Bead Captive Rings feature a small ball with two indents. The ring is fastened by squeezing each end against the indent.
Segment Rings: Segment rings feature a hinged or separate piece of the ring that can be opened in order to insert your jewellery.
Cylinder Closure Rings: Cylinder closure rings feature a segment that the hoop is pushed into, in order to complete the ring.
Seamless Rings: Seamless rings, as the name suggests, are designed to look like a single smooth hoop. They have a small break in the hoop to allow for insertion and removal from your piercing.
Septum Clicker: Septum clickers are not strictly rings as they feature a straight bar that can be clicked into the ring, hence the name. They are designed specifically for wear in septum piercings.
Daith Ring: Daith rings are similar to seamless rings in that they usually have a small break in the hoop to allow you to insert your piercing jewellery but they are available in a variety of fun shapes such as hearts and stars. The daith ring is specifically designed for use in daith piercings.

What kind of jewelry do piercers use?

Piercers usually use titanium jewelry but may also use surgical steel jewellery. When you first have your piercing your piercer may use a longer piercing bar to allow for swelling. Once the swelling has gone down you can return to have your piercing changed to a shorter bar. Your piercer is likely to use a straight or curved jewelry bar in your piercing, depending on what piercing you are getting, while it heals. You may be able to try out another kind of jewellery such as a ring once your piercing has healed.

How many types of piercings are there?

There are lots of types of piercings and piercing combinations. On the lips and ears alone there are several cartilage placements and various lip placements to choose from. Other areas of the body where you can have many different types of piercings are facial, oral, navel, and genital. Plus you can get surface piercings which can be embedded under the skin in any location where it is safe to do so.

What is considered body jewelry?

Body jewellery is any piece of jewellery that is placed through a piercing hole. This can be through one, two, or more piercing holes and in any location around the body. People have varying opinions as to whether fake piercing jewellery is considered to be body jewellery.

What type of earrings are best for newly pierced ears?

Surgical steel and titanium are the earrings that are best for newly pierced ears. Choose types of piercings ear without nickel as these are less likely to cause allergic reactions. Titanium is hypoallergenic while surgical steel is durable. Your piercer will recommend wearing small studs in your newly pierced ears while they heal. Once they have healed you can try out other types of earrings such as hoops and drop earrings.
