Stretched ear piercings just got even more exciting! We have long offered plugs, tunnels, and tapers but now you can add to your stretched lobe jewellery collection with ear hangers

What are ear hangers used for?

Ear Hangers: ear hangers are designed to add adornment to your stretched ear piercing without adding much more weight than your regular plugs or tunnels. These light ear hangers for stretched ears can be hung from your ear to add an unusual decoration. They can either be hung on top of a tunnel or on their own.

Ear Weights: As the name suggests, ear weights will add considerable weight to your stretched piercing to either aid with further stretching or add fun decoration. Depending on your purpose, will depend on how long you will want to wear an ear weight for. Although, it is important to note that wearing an ear weight for any length of time will naturally cause some stretching.

Ear Saddles: Ear saddles can be categorised as either weights or hangers depending on their design. The ear saddle name is due to their very specific shape. Saddle ear weights will hang from the bottom of the ear lobe. Saddle hangers have weight on both sides, unlike some styles where the weight is focussed on one side of the jewellery.

These ear saddle hangers are a fun way to switch up the look of your stretched ear lobes but as with any piercing, it is important to know how to use them.

Do ear hangers stretch your ears?

Weighted ear hangers will stretch your ears as gravity will work to pull on the lobe and cause stretching. Lighter ear hangers may not cause your ears to stretch or may cause minimal stretching as they will not put so much pressure on your lobe.

Are ear weights any good for stretching?

If you are using ear weights for stretching, there are a few things to consider. The main bulk and weight of the jewellery will be concentrated on the lower section of the lobe which means the skin may become thinner than other parts of the piercing. To help achieve a more even weight distribution, wear your ear weight over a traditional tunnel.

How long should you wear ear hangers?

You may want to consider only wearing the ear weights for a set period of time. Try saving your new jewellery for special events such as gigs and parties or choosing a few hours throughout the day to wear your hanger earrings as the extra weight will stretch your piercing and can cause irritation if worn for long periods of time.

Are ear weights safe?

Ear weights are safe if used correctly. Pay close attention to how your body is reacting to the additional weight. If you have already successfully stretched your lobe piercing you will be well aware of how important it is to take things slow and monitor your body. The same applies to using ear weight hangers. If your piercing becomes inflamed, red, and irritated it is best to give it a break from wearing a weight. It could be a sign of heavy ear weights so switch back to your regular jewellery until the inflammation has subsided and then slowly reintroduce weights by either choosing lighter jewellery and building up or wearing your weight for short periods of time at first.

If you want to begin with lighter jewellery and then increase the weight, you can choose a piece of jewellery that will accommodate hoops. Insert the main ear hanger into your piercing and then slowly add hoops to the bottom of the stretched ear hangers to increase the weight. Whether you want to pick up some new BCRs to achieve this or already have some in your collection, this can be a fun way to customise your piercing.

Before you begin stretching your ears, make sure your lobe piercing is fully healed. If you would like any advice on ear stretching piercings, visit our dedicated page and make sure to talk to one of our piercers for advice.

If you aren’t sure whether your piercing is healed enough to accommodate an ear hanger or what size is appropriate for your current gauge then you can always talk to one of our piercers in store.

At Blue Banana, you can shop from our range of ear weights UK for fast shipping and regular offers such as piercing jewellery multibuys. If you are ready to customise your alternative piercings with equally alternative jewellery, then ear hangers are a great choice for your healed stretched lobe piercing.
