Prep & Insertion

Once you have received your coloured contact lenses from us, there are a few things you should know before you begin using your Halloween lenses

Preparing your lenses for use is an essential step of the lens-wearing process. There are several steps you should take to prepare your lenses:

  • Before opening the contact lens box, check that you have the correct lenses you have ordered. Check that the packaging has not been damaged and that the lenses are in date. If you think you have the wrong lenses, you can always reach out to our customer service team who will happily assist you.
  • When you have opened the lens packaging, check the contact lens for damage or tearing. If you notice something wrong with the lenses, do not insert them and get in touch with our customer service department.
  • If the contact lenses look healthy and without signs of damage, now you can start preparing them for use. It is very important that you soak your coloured contact lenses in Contact Lens Solution (not water or saliva) for a minimum of 2 hours before you insert them. This ensures that the lenses are free from debris and are clean and supple. Inserting the lenses straight from the packaging can cause irritation as the solution in the packet/vial is a highly concentrated formula of solution.
  • Next, with clean hands, remove the contact lens from the solution and place it on your index finger. Here you can check to make sure it is not inside out. If the lens appears “V-shaped” with the edges pointing outwards, your lens may be inside out. Make sure that the lens is sitting “U-shaped”. This can also be tested by pinching the lens between your thumb and index finger to see its shape. Your lenses are now ready to be inserted.

Insertion:

  1. Once you have placed the contact lens on your index finger, use your other hand to lift your upper eyelid slightly.
  2. Lift the lens to your eye and carefully place the contact lens on your eye. The lens should sit flush with your eye. If you happen to drop the lens at this stage, be sure to thoroughly inspect and clean it before trying to insert it again.
  3. Once inserted, it can help to move your eye around until the product is in a comfortable position.

Understanding Durations

How long can I wear contact lenses?

If you have daily contact lenses, these can be worn for one day. Lenses should not be worn for more than 8 hours.

If you have 30 day, 90 day or yearly lenses, you can reuse these for up to 30 days, 90 days or 1 year respectively once you have opened the packet. You must store your lenses in fresh contact lens solution in between uses. Wear time should not exceed more than 8 hours.

Essential Information

  • DO NOT sleep in your contact lenses.
  • DO NOT wear your lenses for more than 8 hours.
  • DO NOT clean your contact lenses in anything but Contact Lens Solution.
  • DO NOT share your contact lenses with anyone.
  • DO NOT stack your lenses on top of other lenses.

Removal & Aftercare

Removing your lenses can be the trickiest part of the process but is not one to worry about. Remember to wash your hands before attempting to remove the lenses.

  1. Lift your upper eyelid and gently pinch the lens in your eye.
  2. The lens should easily come away from the eye. If it does not, try using eye drops to moisten your eye and give it another go.
  3. Once the lens is out, rinse them in contact lens solution and place them back in their storage container in fresh solution or, if you have daily lenses, simply dispose of them in the bin.

If you have reusable lenses, check them often to make sure they are soaking in plenty of solution.

Troubleshooting

Why are my contact lenses uncomfortable?

There are several reasons why your contact lenses may be causing your discomfort. Here are some things to check.

  • Inspect the lens for damage - if there is tearing, marks or the edges are not smooth, do not attempt to insert the lenses.
  • Clean your lenses - be sure to give your lenses a clean before inserting to remove debris or buildup on the lens.
  • Soak your lenses in solution - if it’s your first time wearing your new lenses, be sure to soak them in solution for a minimum of 2 hours. The solution the lenses are stored in is highly concentrated to keep the lenses supple but its strong formula can irritate your eyes.
  • Your eye measurements don’t match the lens - it is important to note that when buying lenses, the lens measurements, such as base curve and diameter, match the measurements of your eye from your latest contact lens checkup with your optician. If the base curve and diameter don’t match, the lens will not sit correctly on your eye, causing discomfort.

Why is my vision blurry?

Your vision may be blurry for several reasons. When first inserting the lenses, it can take a few minutes for your eyes to adjust and for the lenses to settle.

For longer bouts of blurry vision, if your contact lenses match your eye measurements (base curve, diameter, etc.), you can likely rule out a problem with your prescription. One reason for blurry vision with contact lenses could be deposits such as dirt or build-up on your lenses so try cleaning your lenses and reinserting them. Allergies and dry eyes can also affect your vision. Always check for damage and that the contact lenses are not inside out.

If you have concerns about your blurry vision, you can reach out to our customer service team for assistance or get in touch with your local optician.
