Download Festival: 8th-1th June

This year marks 20 years of Download Festival and oh boy is it a big one! Download 20 is pulling out all the stops and expanding to 4 days of acts across the weekend.

Headliners

  • Metallica
  • Slipknot
  • Bring Me The Horizon

Seeing as this year is the 20th anniversary, they couldn’t just have anyone headlining the mainstage. These musical giants of the rock and metal scene are the perfect choice for a celebration. Slipknot, Bring Me The Horizon and Metallica are set to play back-to-back hits with Metallica headlining two days and promising no repeat songs for a completely unique set on both nights. It doesn’t get better than that!

The facts:

  • This is Metallica’s fourth time headlining but it’s been over a decade since their last performance at Download.
  • Download 20 marks Bring Me The Horizon’s first-ever headline set but they have performed at the event many times before on smaller stages.
  • Slipknot is returning for their fifth headlining slot.

Whilst we’re sure you’re dying to see these headline acts, it’s always a great idea to check out some of the supporting bands too. If you love bands that put on a show then why not check out Ice Nine Kills and Ghost for a dark and gothic visual? If you love to mosh at concerts then be sure to check out Fever 333 for a powerful performance as well as rising metalcore bands Polaris and Caskets.

Glastonbury 21st-26th June

It’s looking to be another year of big names at one of the UK’s biggest events of the year, Glastonbury.

Headliners:

  • Arctic Monkeys
  • Guns N Roses
  • Elton John

Whilst you might not think that Glastonbury is a rock festival, they certainly cover a wide range of music genres from reggae, hip-hop and alternative. This year has something for everyone with acts such as Queens of the Stone Age, Lewis Capaldi and Aitch.

There have been some amazing acts announced for Glasto 2023 and we’re here to give you the rundown on some acts you might not have considered before.

If you love a punk mashup then be sure to visit the Nova Twins set on the Other Stage on Sunday or up-and-comer Casyette on Friday’s Left Field stage.

If you’re searching for something different to keep you entertained at Glastonbury then why not check out Mongolian Folk Metal band The Hu? With unique cultural instruments and guttural throat singing, this quartet are bound to knock your socks off!

Bloodstock: 10th - 13th August

Rounding up the end of the season is no other than Bloodstock OpenAir Festival. This festival welcomes the greats of heavy metal including this year’s headliners Killswitch Engage, Meshuggah and Megadeth.

Headliners

  • Killswitch Engage
  • Meshuggah
  • Megadeth

The heavier the better at this metal fest! With 3 heavy metal headliners, expect to see plenty of mosh pits, walls of death and headbanging.

Brothers of Metal are a Swedish 8-piece Viking metal band that you won’t want to miss at this metal fest! Inspired by Viking and Norse mythology, this talented octet combines stage visuals and lyrics to create a show-stopping performance.

Another standout artist is Trollfest. This Norwegian folk metal band is truly one of a kind. With upbeat and melodic tones matched with heavy metal vocals, this genre is a fun one to explore!

R&L: 25-27th August

The last festival of the season looks to be one big party! Reading & Leeds are experts in creating the perfect mix of genres for their lineup. Whilst acts such as Billie Eilish, Central Cee and Declan Mckenna appeal to the pop masses, artists such as Sam Fender, You Me At Six and Nothing But Thieves are sure to appeal to the rockers in the audience.

Headliners:

  • Sam Fender
  • Killers
  • Billie Eilish

If you’re searching for some alternative acts to check out at the festival, why not visit Don Broco’s set on the Main Stage West on Friday or Foals for an indie vibe on Saturday?

If there’s one artist we recommend seeing at a festival this year it’s Sleep Token. This masked band released an amazing contemporary album Take Me Back To Eden. Mixing metal influences as well as melodic harmonies and keyboards and an impressive vocal range, this mysterious band will put on one hell of a show!
