Bear in mind, that these aren’t miracle cures so always use old towels and clothes when dyeing your hair and gather everything you need before you start opening your hair dye container. 

Prevention is always best so before you begin dyeing your hair make sure to apply a layer of petroleum jelly around your hairline and on your ears to prevent your skin from staining. You should also only wear old clothing and use old towels as they will get stained. Make sure you have specific equipment saved for hair dye such as a mixing bowl and a tint brush so that you can minimise contact with other surfaces. Always wear protective gloves, not only to stop staining but also to prevent your skin from being damaged, especially if you are using bleach.

Make sure to do this as soon as you notice the stain as it will be less effective the longer the stain has been on the fabric and is unlikely to work if you have already washed your clothes to try and get the stain out. Sponge the stain with your vinegar and washing up liquid solution and allow the liquid to absorb for 30 minutes, blotting the area every 5 minutes. Sponge the stain with rubbing alcohol, taking care not to spread it too widely then leave to dry.

Usually, nail polish remover or baking soda will do the trick if you are trying to remove hair dye from your skin or bathtub. Make sure to check the material of your bathroom surfaces before using these methods to prevent any damage. Nail polish or rubbing alcohol can be applied to the affected area with a cotton ball and then scrubbed to aid the removal of the hair dye. If your stain has been left for longer or is stubborn you can make a baking soda and water paste which can be used to cover the stain and can be left overnight. You can then wipe away the paste and your stain should have faded.

Use a mix of dishwashing detergent and white vinegar with cold water to remove hair dye from carpets and furniture. Sponge the stain on your carpet or furniture with your solution taking care not to spread it and frequently blot the area in order to remove the hair dye.
