The Live After Death album is still highly regarded by critics and fans, said to be the perfect live album that preserves Iron Maiden at their best. At the time of the album’s release, tensions about live performances and lip-syncing were becoming more prevalent, so the band refused to dub any of the album, making it authentic and raw.
The cover art was done by Derek Riggs, who put his name on a gravestone on the back cover, the same artist who did the work for the powerslave cover. The headstone behind Eddie’s figure, breaking free from the ground, matches the original art, with a misquote of Lovecraft and Edward T visible (presumably followed by Head) above R.I.P. The Eddie of this cover is burning with anger, flames licking off his body and grave, electricity surging from his metal cuffs that followed the mascot from the Powerslave album cover, and lightning striking dramatically at his forehead.
